Rósa Gudmundsdóttir & the Ultratight
w/ Vanessa Anderson
Rosa
Rising Icelandic star, Rósa Gudmundsdóttir was born in the Westman Islands off the coast of Iceland. In 2001 she began writing her own music, composing on guitar, and instrument she had never focused on before, to the lyrics she had been scribbling on pieces of paper along her journeys. "When I look back, I think I was meant to be a songwriter.. My life's story has had many unexpected twists, unusual and sometimes dramatic, and I feel I have a message to share".
In 2008 Rósa moved to New York and has been writing, recording and performing with her newly formed super-sexy all-girl band, the Ultratight. Bassist Amanda Ruzza brings the funk, and together with Yvette Scott, with her snappy groove-laden drumming, give the sound a solid funky back-bone, while rock guitarist Carolyn Marosy beautifully completes Rósa's musical vision. This room-shaking girl band is the perfect foil for Gudmnundodottir's lush arrangements. "This bunch of fine musicians could give any of those snarly rock boys a run for their money on any day of the week" - Tiffany Baker, GO NYC Magazine.

MICK TAYLOR & HIS BRITISH ALLSTAR BAND

Micachu & The Shapes
marina
Despite her relative youth, Mica arrives as something of a Midas touched, Renaissance artist: equally at home writing and producing stunning, experimental pop with the likes of Matthew Herbert, as MCing with friends in various grime collectives and balancing this with her day time tutorage at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she’s studying composition. For live shows Micachu plays with her band the Shapes: a three-piece fronted by Mica (vocals, guitar, electronics and Hoover), Raisa Kahn (keys) and Marc Pell (drums). Armed with just her beat up, half sized guitar and hidden beneath a mop of hair, Mica’s understated appearance belies her startling musical prowess.

The Walkmen
A few of Alec's favorite professional soccer players are Johan Cruyff, Franz Beckenbauer, Zinedine Zidane, and Carlos Valderrama and this is his favorite soccer match. Alec has also been known to call garlic dill pickles his favorite food. Looking back on his life, he remembers the time when his younger brother cracked his skull after a fall from the space rocket at the Andorra playground. The future will hopefully hold the key to resolve the exterior plaster issues that plague Alec's home.

Where They At?
New Orleans Bounce and Hip-Hop in Words and Pictures
Opening April 22, 2010, the exhibition features photographs taken by Aubrey Edwards and Polo Silk of bounce performers, including Juvenile, DJ Jimi and Katey Red, and of landscapes where bounce performers grew up, lived and performed. Audio-visual stations offer footage of live performances and oral history recordings by members and tradition bearers of the bounce community. Ephemera, such as LPs, tapes and posters document the material culture and its adaptations over time. New Orleans is the source for many forms of indigenous American music, including funk and the street music of Second Line bands and Mardi Gras Indians. Bounce is the newest manifestation of that Southern tradition. Mardi Gras Indian chants, brass band beats and call-and-response routines equally inform bounce music...
